If you meet anyone from FunCitySocialMedia and talk to us for any length of time, we will tell you to log into Facebook as your business page and go “Like” other pages. We will also tell you that while there you should leave comments that are witty, interesting, fun and not too “salesy.”
This summer we have a student working for us and we told her do just that under our DFW Stuff Facebook Account, and here are the results of her efforts:
On June 14th, she Liked and commented on 19 Facebook walls of local businesses in the area. She was humorous and creative in her posts. Her purpose was to be interactive, not necessarily to drive visitors to any particular site or page.
The results from those 19 wall post were astronomical:
- 6,000 more hits than normal
- 40 new “Likes” within 24 hours
- 185 additional hits on our new Facebook Mini-Websites Site.
It is also worthy to note that our Facebook hits continued at a rate of 2,000 a day for the next two days. These results floored us too – those kind of analytics aren’t necessarily typical.
So when we tell you that being interactive with your Facebook is important, we really, really mean it. You may not have the time to like 19 other pages and think of clever comments in one day but our suggestion to you is to Like five pages at a time.
Here are a few Facebook Tips from a previous blog post: 25 Tips for a Great Facebook Fan Page, Part 1
1) Have Outstanding Content. This seems so obvious, but it is a point I always have to remind clients. Fans follow great content. Much like a writing a book, blog or website, the information must be good.
5) Post More than Words on Your Wall. You have this great tool that displays and shares pictures, video, and links of every kind. Make use of it. We don’t just want to read about your products and services we want to hear and see them as well.
6) Tell Me Something on Your Wall I Cannot Find Anywhere Else. What’s the point of becoming a Fan of your Facebook Fan page if you don’t offer me something I cannot find on your website? Be different, keep my attention.

As a member of the team I have taken to doing this for my personal brand (Cook Train Eat Race) and let me tell you it works. I have engaged in talks with plenty of triathlon and healthy food companies in this time and it is incredible how fast this works.
It goes to the fact that social media means being social.
