Facebook is finally rolling out Timeline for Business fan pages. Some of you have already converted and all of you will be forced to convert by March 30th. Facebook changes are always hard but offer some great features and opportunities that need exploring. For the next seven post, we are going to highlight some of these great new features and how to best use them.
The new timeline has introduced new ways to highlight posts, images, or videos on your Wall. For starters, the new timeline runs down the center of the page linking events historically from today to infinite past on one side or the other via a dividing line. You can expand or “highlight” an item by hovering your mouse over the top right corner and clicking “Highlight”.
The post, pictures, or video will expand across the entire timeline making it easier to be seen.
Furthermore, Facebook will give more importance to this highlighted post in the future by making it a summary picture when you scan through your yearly or monthly timeline long after this even has past. i.e. If you are looking back through your timeline years from now, this post will be highlighted in the review. Should you wish to un-highlight a post, you can repeat the procedure and it will return to its normal size.
Business Tip: Considering all the activity on a business fan page, this feature gives you the opportunity to allow your fans to see a post you don’t want them to miss. In our little initial experimenting on several business fan pages, we found more comments applied to the highlighted posts vs. the un-highlighted ones. Of course everything in moderation, as if you highlight every post it defeats the purpose.
How are you using highlight post? What is your favorite new timeline feature?
