Do you love trains? Do you love riding trains? Well, if you said yes then you are going to love the treat that we have for you today. There are several places that you can take your family for a fun train ride adventure.

Bonus Fun Stuff:Go on a family adventure and find a unique vintage toy.

The M-Line in Uptown Dallas

Take a ride on a trolley, affectionately named “Rosie,” right in the heart of Dallas and you will feel like life has slowed down for just a moment. It’s air-conditioned during our eternal Texas summers, too. As an added bonus riding the trolly is free of charge. Thinking of a party for a train-lover? Book the whole thing.

When you take a ride on the M-Line you will get to see some of the more trendy shops, art galleries and bistros in the uptown area. If you have a well behaved pup that you would like to take on an adventure, this is the ride for you both. The trolley does accept furry friends as long as they are leashed. NEW: Technology is awesome: You can now see where the cars are in real time.

The Forest Park Miniature Railroad

This train ride is reason enough to make it over to Ft Worth (as if there aren’t 1000 others). This scenic train ride includes 6 bridges, a duck pond and beautiful view of Trinity Park. Your family will find crossing the 350 foot girder bridge and the near 200-foot truss bridge thrilling.

Fun Train Facts: The Forest Park Miniature train has been in service for over 50 years! The train ride is 40 minutes long and stops at the Trinity Park Depot. One important note to keep in mind is that this is a cash-only operation;  stop by the ATM on the way. Tickets are five dollars for adults four dollars for children as of August 2018.

Grapevine Vintage Railroad

Not only do you get to go on a fun train ride in a historical train but you can also go on an adventure that starts in Grapevine. The Vintage Railroad has adventures such as Great Train Robberies. There are a variety of different trips that you can take on the Grapevine Vintage Railroad, so you will want to look closely at their websites. You can take a ride to the Ft Worth Stockyards and they even give you time to shop around or grab a bite to eat. If you are looking for something a bit shorter, take the Trinity River Fun Ride mini-excursion. No matter which ride that you choose, the odds are good that you will go back for another soon.

Texas Eagle

Let’s say you want to get out of town for a long weekend, the last thing you want to do is get on the road after a long week commuting. Consider the Texas Eagle, which I’ve been on for three round trips now: two to Austin and one to San Marcos. The Amtrak station is housed at the FW Intermodal in downtown Fort Worth, and it goes all the way from Chicago to San Antonio with several stops in between. A round-trip ticket to Austin is comparable to a bus ticket and takes about four hours each way. There is a dining car so you can order a full meal. Vista seating is on the very top, and reclining seats are on the bottom deck, and you can choose. There are smoke stops, but no real off-on opportunities, so settle in and relax. It’s got limited wifi as of this update, but it means I got to my destination not feeling wired and stressed. Here’s the link to start travel planning from the Amtrak site.

LOCATION

It took me years to hop on this cross-country train, but found it to be easy to book a ticket, with friendly staff and plenty of comfortable seating.

TrainTopia in Frisco, Texas

While there are no train rides at the Frisco Discovery Center, the brand-new 2500-foot model train display called TrainTopia was donated to the museum by Amanda and Brint Ryan. Ticket proceeds benefit the Museum of the American Railroad.
