When leaving from the south end of DFW International Airport, Euless is the first city you’ll pass through heading west. Plenty of people just pass through Euless, but this city of over 50,000 people is worth stopping in. It has a public golf course and conference center and 632 acres of city parks. The city was designated as a Tree City USA in 1976 and its annual signature event is Arbor Daze. The Arbor Daze festival has given out more than 150,000 trees in its history. Imagine what the attendance has been in those 25-plus years.

If you live in Euless or are passing through on a day that’s not Arbor Day, you might wonder what to do. I’ll share a few things you might enjoy. If you don’t live here, or even if you do, you might be surprised to find that you can do some of these things without ever leaving Euless, Texas.

Experience Africa

This bar and grill hosts a thriving night life and serves a seemingly unlimited selection of African foods. Sample some of the traditional dishes or dance to the music at Legacy Africa Bar and Grill.

At Legacy Africa Bar and Grill try some kebabs, samosa, masala fries, or biriani fried rice, or order their specialty, a whole fried tilapia. The beautiful bar and patio make it a great place to try some new food. DJ music and global music videos heat the place up, usually starting by 9 or 10 PM on the weekends.

Bonus Fun Stuff: 3 Movies You Might Love That Will Also Stress You Out

NEW: Booming Glade Parks Shops

Glade Parks Town Center (that area of expanding restaurants and shops across that cool new bridge) already has Lazy Dog, Outback, 24-Hour Fitness, Dave & Busters and the brand-new Starbucks. But FunCItyStuff.com has the 411 on even more headed our way: National off-price retailer, Burlington is slated to open in September. Total Wine & More will open its 25,000-square-foot facility in October, providing Euless with its first spirits store (and giving Hall’s across the street on the Colleyville side a run for their money). Several restaurants will soon be joining Glade Parks’ excellent lineup of dining options. Imperial Hibachi, an upscale Asian Fusion restaurant serving hibachi, sushi and Asian Fusion entrées is open now. MidiCi, the Neapolitan Pizza Company is opening in late summer, while Portland, Oregon-based Thirsty Lion Gastropub & Grill, which was recently named one of the top 50 emerging restaurant brands, will open later this fall. Euless is even getting a tech-forward hotel, ALoft—coming soon.

Find a Paradise for Beer Lovers at a Gas Station

Seriously, it’s like a Buc-ee’s for craft beer (and wine) lovers. Head to Brü City for the gas station, a pizza shop, a barbecue spot, a great wine selection, and best of all, a 60-tap wall with most of its beers brewed in Texas.

Have a pint or sample a flight, take home a bottle of wine or a six pack of (local!!) beer, or fill up your growler. Get gas, have a slice of pizza, browse the wine section, pick up some snacks. You can do all of that here, although it might take all day! Also, check the calendar for tap nights and special Brü nights featuring local breweries with giveaways.

Put It on Ice

Join a hockey league, take ice skating lessons, or just watch a drop-in league game at the Dr. Pepper StarCenter.

This rink, associated with the Dallas Stars NHL team, hosts a hockey academy and a skating academy. Learn to skate or take advanced lessons in figure skating, or simply enjoy public skating sessions, offered almost every day. And have you ever wanted to drive a Zamboni? They have a class for that too. If you want to have all your friends come out, you can throw a birthday party or a broomball party here too.

Say Yes to the Dress (or Tuxedo)

Whether shopping for your wedding, prom or quinceañera, you can say yes to the dress at Bridal Designs and Tuxedos. They also offer tuxedo rental for the men in your party.

You can lose hours browsing their Pinterest boards, but maybe you should just stop in for some personal service. You can make selections for the entire party for your special day from their exclusive collections. Private collections help keep retail prices down, so you can find and afford the dress of your dreams. That goes for prom and quinceañera too. It’s a full-service shop, so you can still get the special attention, fittings, and alterations you’d expect at pricier boutiques.

Swing Your Way Through Devil’s Point

The course at Texas Star Golf can be highly challenging for golfers of any level. You’ll play your way through Scottish links style bunkers and ridges beautifully balanced amid the natural local terrain. Devil’s Point, the ninth hole is a par 4 hole and sounds like a tough one, but if you’ve made it past the seventh hole (aptly named Tombstone) you’re probably doing all right.

Work on your strategic game with multiple tee box choices and make elevation changes work in your favor at this walking-friendly course. You can also visit their pro shop, take lessons, or host parties and events in their conference center. Stop for lunch and enjoy the view of the 18th fairway from Raven’s Grille. The restaurant serves breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner, so no golfer ever needs to go hungry.
