There are plenty of you out there who absolutely love to touch and better yet, taste, the fresh produce you plan to buy. You know who you are! We’ve seen you turn your nose up at the mega-mart world-wide offerings that were picked three weeks before they were ripe. Certainly can’t argue with that decision! It does require another outing to the local farmers market to find the better stuff, but the Mid-Cities area has several wonderful ones to choose from.
If you are curious but unsure about jumping into a trip to a local Farmer’s Market, let me help tip the proverbial scales for you! Not only does everything look delicious, it has a higher nutritional value since it was harvested this week or maybe yesterday! It’s the freshest food available and the seasonal variety can keep a (doctor recommended) rainbow on your plate! The organic choices tend to be less expensive and everyone benefits from less pesticides! Best of all, you are supporting your local farmers and your local economy not to mention, there’s less packaging, less waste and no time lost in shipping! The farmer who grew your food may well be on hand to answer any questions you may have or share a new food preparation idea for that unusual item you’re going to try!
So, load up the fam or go on an excursion by yourself, but remember to hit their websites ahead of time so you know exactly when they are open! Nobody’s got time for a wasted trip!

A day may even come when you get the hankering for a short road trip (meaning no stops needed unless a DQ Blizzard is calling your name), to explore someplace new and want to hop in the car for a short road trip. When that happens, Green Source DFW has a complete list of Farmers Markets, organized county by county in Texas. Sweet!
So, here’s to happy hunting and healthy eating from Old MacDonald’s Farm! EIEIO!
