Hi, guys. Here we are in August already. It’s been busy around here at the ole FunCity Stuff hacienda. We have been connecting with businesses who want us to help promote them and we are trying to find a balance between helping them find YOU, and not being sell-outs who bore our readers with rah-rah or “buy this now.” But I also don’t want to lose my damn shirt, so we have to have advertisers and sponsors.

We figured if we tempered our pitch with giveaways, you would also love us more. It’s my favorite part of blogging, actually – the relationships and how I’ve gotten to know quite a few of you either online or in person.

That does sound a little stalkery.

What can I say, I find you very, VERY attractive.

The Lone Star Iced Tea Festival is Saturday at the Premier Event Center in Lewisville. It’s $10 advance, $15 at the door …not bad for spending the day sampling teas INDOORS. You can vote on your favorite, bid on silent auction items. It looks like a low-key event; kids get in free but you still need to reserve a ticket for them for headcount porpoises.

The Ringling Bros. Circus Xtreme is this weekend at American Airlines Center. Tickets are as cheap as $5 in the nosebleed seats or $80 ring side. Three-ring side? Lots of acrobatics is what makes this “extreme” – aerials and stunts, The Human Cannonball. I haven’t been to the circus since a Shriner thing a decade ago in Fort Worth and I was so far away, it all looked like a Mattel Play Set from where I was seated.

Weekend Whirlwind Getaway Giveaway at Best Day Ever Ranch Just an Hour North of Dallas

So ya’ll, I talked to the coolest guy the other day. He owns Best Day Ever Ranch outside of McKinney. He’s been building up this land for a while and he just opened to green-horns in March. It’s got cabins with wi-fi and A/C, hiking/biking trails, a lake, a small petting zoo, an event center/barn. Most of all, peace and quiet and big sky. So our man Paul at BDER is giving away a weekend to three very lucky people!!! Any weekend that they have availability in 2016. It kind of blows my mind, but he wants people to know that he’s out there, and we’re just the people to help him do it. Click over here to read more and enter the giveaway.

There’s a Scavenger Hunt that starts out in the Fort Worth Stockyards on Sunday. $27 for a team of up to five people isn’t too bad for a city tour and finding virtual “stuff” around the city. You all need a smartphone and whatnot, so maybe this is a bit like a more sophisticated version of Pokemon. Or Pokemon for people who don’t want creatures. Isn’t supposed to be a degree and a half cooler this weekend?

Woodstock was before even MY time, but the peace and love schtick returns to the Sons of Hermann Hall in Dallas for a Music & Arts Gathering on Saturday. It’s actually a fundraiser for them to upkeep the over 100-year-old historic building they are in, but it’s only $10 bucks and it may be the best deal of the weekend. Twenty bands are playing from noon til midnight, there’s a groovy hippie costume contest, vintage merchandise for sale, all without the chaotic muddy nakedness of the original Woodstock. Bonus. (I think?)

Gwen Stefani is in town. At the Gexa Saturday, there are still tickets available at the time of this writing. Hollaback Girl was out in 2005 and No Doubt’s Don’t Speak debuted in 1996, people. That was 20 years ago. wtf.

I don’t generally drink much, but I love the idea of wine. Renee, the WordPress part of this FunCity thing LOVES dry, red wine. I think it smells like rubber tires and tastes like venom, but whatever floats the respective boats. Lots of wineries here in Texas but there’s Lost Oak Winery in Burleson that’s often got a shindig going on. This weekend there’s a Grape Stomp Saturday then a brunch on Sunday. Plus an I Love Lucy costume contest.

Heim BBQ opened on Magnolia in Fort Worth. I haven’t been yet but I hear someone started camping out at 3:15am on the first day. They’ve been selling out daily. Bekah did a writeup on last year’s SmokedDallas and got to try the Heim-famous Bacon Burnt Ends and added it to her faves list.

Gratuitous food pic from visit to Taverna Rossa Southlake…so good, ya’ll.

The first-ever DFW Food and Wine Festival starts Friday and runs through Saturday night. It kicks off the long-running DFW Restaurant Week, where high-end restaurants all over the metroplex offer prix fixe menus for a lower cost to introduce their menus to the eager populace and donate some of the proceeds to the Lena Pope Home. One-day passes are $15 or you can get two days for $25. It’s at Main Street Garden in Dallas. Good music and good food – I am ALLLL ABOUT these kinds of events, as my waistline can attest.

TangoTab is doing a Feed The City event Saturday. Everyone brings stuff to make sandwiches then we all get together to make and bag, then they get passed out to the Dallas’ hungriest. (I assume, unless everyone just hunkers down and eats a bunch of sammies.) Check the link for a shopping list; gig starts at 8:30a.

There’s a free auto show at Northpark Center. It runs through August 28th. I’m not Dallas trendy, svelte or rich, but I can appreciate a sweet ride when I see one. (Or ride in one. Ford Texas reached out to me and said “Here, drive these cars.” I took one for the team and this week I’m in a gorgeous deep red Lincoln Navigator. It’s what I imagine hovercraft must feel like.)

Sweet ride. What do you guys think of spinning rims?

THURSDAY, there’s something that looks cool in Denton but there’s so much going on that I don’t know what’s going on. Free ice cream at a Natural Grocers to celebrate their anniversary, plus an official Guinness Book hula-hooping event, plus wear a 1950’s costume. Plus you can win stuff. See? But all those things put together in Denton makes it cool. 12-6p Thursday, so don’t miss it. Get pics and tell us which part of this was the best.

That’s it, that’s everything, that’s all there is. Happy Weekending. What are you going to spend your hard-earned money on this weekend?
