After a one year hiatus following the departure of lead singer Alice Glass in 2014, songwriter/producer Ethan Kath decided to continue Crystal Castles with a new lead singer, Edith Frances in 2015. That same year, they released single tracks like Frail and Deicide as a sneak peek of the latest album they have released with a new vocalist. The new duo has renovated the sound Crystal Castles was established with, stepping into darker fields and fleshy tones.

Having just released Amnesty (I) via Fiction Records in August 2016–four years after Crystal Castles’ last studio album (III)–the group is currently on a long-awaited North American tour supporting the new record. Compared to (III), Amnesty (I) shows more control and experimentation in electronic production while continuing to keep the ominously explosive synths that were emphasized in (III). There are more club-oriented tracks on this record than their previous album, but there are also more substantial and sonic textures that lead in the right direction of progression.
