Do you remember the thrill of going to a berry farm or apple orchard and getting to pick yourself a basket of beautiful fruit to take home? Only as a kid would such back-breaking labor be quite the thrill. But now that you’re all grown up with a family of your own, wouldn’t it be nice to share that fun again?

There is a hay maze for small children to play in, photo opportunities (naturally), benches and restrooms, concession stand, and you can purchase gift certificates for flowers or bulbs, right up until April 20th or so. So if you’re sick to death of those cerulean fields of bluebonnets that you can’t take home, this might make for a fun outing and a gorgeous centerpiece (or two).

I went earlier this month. It was nice, but definitely smaller than I thought it would be. The “maze” is only 1 hay bale high – so maybe for toddlers? The flowers were lovely – so if you’re into that, you will enjoy it. Even after walking most of the aisles that were in bloom (only about 1/3 at that point), it was only about 15 minutes of interest (for 2 adults). Sure, people were taking photos too – but we had gone right after rain, and it hadn’t dried out yet, so there was a lot of mud mostly. The place did give booties for your shoes to prevent you getting all mudded up.
I’d say sure – go once if you want to see flowers and pick some. Luckily, we came from Frisco, so it wasn’t too far out of the way.
Probably not an annual event for me though.
Oh, thanks for the insight! And it sounds like going later in the season is definitely better. The mud would be maddening for me, too.
